Preliminary Review Documentation (VPD) from uni-assist

For applications from the 2027 summer semester onwards, prospective students with a foreign qualification for university admission will generally require Preliminary Assessment Documentation (VPD) from uni-assist.

What you need to know

The VPD confirms that uni-assist has assessed your foreign academic qualifications. You will need the VPD for your subsequent application to LMU.

Please apply for your VPD from uni-assist timely. We recommend that you submit your application at least six weeks before the end of the relevant application deadline at LMU.

You can apply for the VPD at any time of the year.

Information on the VPD and applying to uni-assist

Important: The VPD does not replace your application to LMU and does not constitute admission to a degree programme.

Who does not need a VPD?

In certain cases, a VPD is not required for an application to LMU. This applies in particular to:

  • German schools abroad, provided they are recognized by the Conference of Ministers of Education and authorized to administer the German Abitur and Reife examinations on a regular basis
  • European Schools in conjunction with the European Baccalaureate diploma
  • German-French high schools, provided they were established under the agreement between the Federal Republic of Germany and the French Republic and the student has earned the German-French Abitur (Note: Graduates of the French track at Jean Renoir High School who have not earned the AbiBac, however, do need a VPD!)
  • International French schools, provided that the German examination component of the “option internationale” of the French Baccalauréat has been passed
With these certificates, you can apply directly through the application portal of the LMU.

Using your certificate and the notification from "Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle" (ZAST or ZAB), you can apply directly through the application portal of the LMU.

You apply directly to the department and then through the LMU application portal.

The entire application process, including the evaluation of academic certificates, is handled by the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung (Hochschulstart). Please visit their website for more information: https://www.hochschulstart.de

Please note: If the criteria listed above do not apply to you - for example, if you are a non-EU/EEA citizen and do not hold a German university entrance qualification - you must apply through the LMU application portal, and you will definitely need a VPD!

Your certificate will be reviewed as part of your application to the Studienkolleg through the LMU application portal.
